The Rocking Chair Springs Ranch is known for its large elk population and good mule deer population. This ranch is located in Elk Hunting Area 6. Herds of elk in excess of 600 head can be seen in the tree covered hilltops and rugged canyons. The ranch is home to a spectacular "year around" herd of elk that is the envy of all the hunters and wildlife enthusiasts that are aware of its existence.
The elk are the main focus of the ranch, but there are quality mule deer and antelope in sufficient numbers as well as some whitetail deer, moose, black bears, and mountain lions. Wild turkeys were stocked a few miles away just a few years ago, and there is now a limited quota season. The hill country and pasture provide cover and food for many varieties of game birds including blue grouse and would provide excellent habitat for other non-native birds that could be stocked. Again, the ease of access and total privacy of the Ranch adds to the quality of the wildlife experience.
The Rocking Chair Springs Ranch is located in Southern Wyoming near the Colorado border. The ranch has excellent access via Interstate 80 or US Hwy 287. The north entrance to the ranch is only 15 minutes from Laramie and 30 minutes from the Wyoming state capitol; Cheyenne. The town of Laramie offers all essential services, including restaurants, shopping, hospital and a commercial airport offering four daily commercial flights to Denver. From the southern entrance, the Ranch is approximately 50 miles north of Fort Collins, Colorado and 2 hours to Denver, Colorado.
ACREAGE: The Ranch consists of 11,911 + deeded acres, more or less, 640 acres of Wyoming state lease and 1,060 acres of Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land. All acreages are approximate and subject to change and verification.
The topography of the ranch consists of open range grasslands at the south entrance, transitioning into rugged tree covered canyons and ridge tops. The ranch also displays spectacular red sandstone buttes and mesas along the west boundary. Elevation on the ranch ranges from 7,600 to 8,600 feet.
