In 1978, Russ and Jeannie Maytag decided to follow in the footsteps of the original settlers. Over time, and piece by piece, the Maytag's added to their original homestead, building a pristine working ranch of 2,953 acres while preserving western traditions of natural grazing, healthy ecology, and family participation in the ranching endeavor. Expressing their love of horses, ranching, and big sky country bounded by mountain peaks, they built a home and created a life here.

With the same clarity of purpose and vision they had with their original homestead, Russ and Jeannie have created Maytag Mountain Ranch. A few partners can now share this vision: a working cattle ranch preserved in the twenty first century, in accordance with ecologically and environmentally sound ranching practices.

    Maytag Mountain Ranch Ownership Opportunity
Maytag Mountain Ranch is a working, 2,953-acre eco-cattle ranch, located in Colorado's Wet Mountain Valley, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. With the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountains as a backdrop, the ranch consists of 27 carefully planned 100 acre homesteads, each with an identified building envelope of one-half to five acres.

    Ownership Benefits
Each owner has a 1/27 ownership share of the ranch and a voice in the management and operations of the Ranch through the Ranch Owners Association. The owners share ownership of the approximate 350 Red Angus cattle and calves on the Ranch. Proceeds from the sale of the grass-finished beef and other ranch foods is used to offset operational costs of the Ranch.

The owners have access to ranch grown foods including eggs, produce and vegetables as available and each owner receives a quarter (approximately 110 pounds) of grass finished beef each year.

A primary benefit of ownership at Maytag Mountain Ranch is the ability to be part of a working ranch. Two full-time ranch managers and a seasonal ranch hand and gardener manage and operate the Ranch. The two managers live on the ranch year round, housed in individual caretaker homes and report to the Ranch Owners Association.

The managers and staff are responsible for feeding the cattle, horses and small ranch animals; maintaining the health of the animals; supplying and cleaning the barn; moving cattle; building and mending fences; planting and tending the gardens; conducting ranch maintenance and administration.

The Ranch Owners share common areas and amenities including; two Owners’ Lodges, the Cookhouse, the barn, arena and pastures for grazing cattle and an area bordering the San Isabel National Forest. The Ranch's trail system connects the ranch communities, is accessible from each homestead and connects to the San Isabel National Forest and the Rainbow Trail for biking, hiking and horseback riding. The Ranch provides easy access to local amenities in Salida and Westcliffe and is located 65 miles from Pueblo, 75 miles from Colorado Springs, 135 miles from Denver and 200 miles from Taos, New Mexico.

Two fully furnished luxury owners lodges

Owners' have two lodges available to them, the Mow Place and Price Place. The lodges all have two bedrooms, two baths with a fully equipped kitchen, steam shower, fireplace, covered outdoor deck, grill, satellite TV, stereo and Internet access. The lodges are available to owners while their home is being built and each owner has a month of usage each year to entertain family and friends.

    Cookhouse
The Cookhouse serves as the gathering place for neighbors, family and friends on the Ranch. The Cookhouse is available to all owners and offers spectacular western architecture and dramatic views of the Ranch and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The Lodge has a gourmet kitchen and dining room with wood burning fireplace, library, games room and fully stocked bar. The covered outdoor deck provides access to a swimming and fishing pond along with a gas grill.

    Barn and Horses
Maytag Mountain Ranch has a fully equipped seven stall barn with a wash rack, tack room and lounge area. Adjacent to the barn is a 70 foot round pen and 125 by 250 foot riding arena. There are ranch horses for owner use. An equestrian specialist cares for the horses and is available to assist and train owners and their guests. Owners can also stable their own horses. Unique to Maytag Mountain Ranch is a multi-step Natural Horsemanship educational program.

    Trail System
There are 10 miles of multi-use trails on the ranch which can be used to hike, bike and horseback ride. The trail system connects the various neighborhoods of the ranch and is accessible from each homestead. In addition, the Ranch trail system connects to the San Isabel National Forest and Rainbow Trail offering miles of trails, mountain lakes, wildlife and remote camping.

    Fly Fishing
Owners can fly fish in the Ranch’s private ponds and streams stocked with trout. The Arkansas River and its world class, Blue Ribbon fly fishing is only a 10 mile drive from the Ranch.

    Working Ranch Activities
A primary benefit of ownership at Maytag Mountain Ranch is the ability to be part of a working ranch. An owner can decide their level of participation ranging from enjoying the amenities and scenery to actively assisting in management and maintenance of the ranch. As with any busy Colorado ranch, there is always work to be done. An owner can choose from a variety of activities to assist their ranch managers including:

    • Assist with animal health
